Gentle Pilates 4-Week Equipment Series

Are you new to Pilates, feeling out of shape, or dealing with common conditions (such as arthritis, osteoporosis, or cranky knees) that need a little extra attention? Then, this is the series for you. Don’t be intimidated by Pilates. Rashida will guide you through a gentler, slightly slower, and more intentional version of our Pilates Equipment class on the Reformer and Tower and provide modifications, as needed. Moving a little slower and more consciously helps ensure you’re doing the exercises correctly and getting the most out of your classes. Focusing on form and control will help you progress during the series and beyond. Don’t be fooled by the name “Gentle Pilates”. You will still work hard, build strength and flexibility, and get all the other mind-body benefits of Pilates. Note: This series is not appropriate for individuals with serious injuries or chronic pain/conditions. We would love to see you for a Private lesson instead!

Open Your Hips 4-Week Series

Even if you can’t make it as scheduled, you can still get the recorded classes with Live Virtual/Recorded sign up. If you’ve been sitting too much or feel stiff when you stand, then you probably have tight hips and need this series. Hours of sitting shortens and weakens the hip muscles, which can cause low back pain, knee pain, and bad posture. Join Susan for this progressive course to relieve your pain and learn how to release tension through targeted stretching and strengthening of the hips – including the hip flexors, hamstrings, glutes, and inner and outer hip muscles. You will develop a greater awareness and appreciation of the more than 20 muscles that cross the hip joint, and you’ll learn valuable exercises to improve your flexibility and stability. You will also learn the secret to sculpting your hips and thighs, which is all about stabilization and technique. We’ll use a few simple props, including a tennis ball and resistance band. You’ll leave feeling stronger, standing taller, sitting more comfortably, and moving freely!

Stretch, Roll & Release Workshop

Do you have a regular bodywork practice? YOU SHOULD. WHY? Because the health and condition of your body’s tissue (muscle, connective, nervous, and epithelial) affects almost every aspect of your body’s movement, function, and sensation, including your ability to build strength. In this workshop, Beth Davis will introduce you to her transformative self-bodywork practice. Over the course of 40 years as a movement educator and 25 years as a Licensed Therapeutic Massage Therapist, Beth has developed a unique combination of stretching, foam rolling, myofascial release, self-massage, and breathing techniques that empower you to release tension and discomfort in your body, relieve aches and pains, and unwind your mind.  All you need is a mat and a few simple tools.
  • Relieve pain
  • Improve muscle tone and strength
  • Increase flexibility and joint mobility
  • Experience better sleep, mood, and energy
  • Improve circulation and breathing
This workshop lays the foundation for Beth’s weekly Stretch, Roll & Release class starting on Sep 21. If you register for the workshop, you’ll get early access to sign up for the class before we open it to the public.

Core Essentials Workshop: The Abdominal Corset

We hear about core muscles and core strength all the time, but most people know very little about the most important core muscle, the “abdominal corset” (aka the transversus abdominis), which plays a crucial role in almost every aspect of your body’s movement and support. When it’s strong and conditioned, it:
  • Reduces back pain
  • Prevents injuries
  • Makes day-to-day activities easier
  • Improves athletic performance
  • Tightens the waist
Join Aliyah Hatcher, PCOR Founder, Owner and Nationally Certified Pilates Teacher, and Patrick Wenning, Restore Motion Physical Therapist and Certified Integrated Manual Therapist, for a crash course in how to identify, activate, and strengthen your abdominal corset. Pilates equipment is especially suited for this, because the springs load the core with resistance and trigger the muscles to engage.
  • Patrick will explain the fundamentals of the abdominal corset and teach you techniques to activate it.
  • Aliyah will share and teach Pilates exercises on the equipment (with volunteers from the audience) that specifically target the abdominal corset and build core strength and stability.
Come ready to learn and explore the unique benefits of Pilates equipment, participate in exercise demos, ask questions, and have fun!
