Athletic Conditioning

Elite athletes have discovered what professional dancers learned years ago. Pilates is one of the best forms of conditioning for athletes. It has become an integral part of many athletes’ sports training regimens, including Tiger Woods, Lebron James, Olympic volleyball champion Kerri Walsh, and Olympic swimmer Dara Torres. Pilates offers an integrated approach to movement and exercise for every athlete – professional or recreational. In addition to whole body strength training, it improves core strength, flexibility, muscle symmetry, balance, coordination and mental focus.

Traditional athletic training typically develops specific muscles required for a particular sport or activity, but they may not address the deeper stabilizing muscles that are the building blocks of the body. Pilates works the whole body, strengthening the overall musculature and structure by developing the smaller, deeper muscle groups to support and balance large muscles and joints. Muscle symmetry is essential for athletes, because most sports involve repetitive motion, which can cause significant muscle imbalances that diminish performance and lead to injury.
